Clickinmoms has a new project underway called "I Am A Photographer" campaign. They are asking their members to join together to celebrate and empower the women who do it all. Photographers, moms, teachers, nurses, artists, etc..
To participate you needed to submit a photo of yourself holding a sign that completes this sentence "I Am A..." The word has to be a noun and they asked you not to use the word mom or photographer. They wanted us to think beyond that.
They will choose the winners in January and each photo submitted Clickinmoms will donate $1 to RAINN- the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization. They have not told us how the winning photos will be used. I'm guessing a book and proceeds of the book go to RAINN. Just a guess, though!
As a woman and mom of two young girls violence against women really hits home for me. I would love to get more involved in this charity or an anti violence against women charity someday soon.
Until then... Here is my submission. I Am A Voice.
When I thought about using this word I thought about my years as a teacher and how I was and still am a voice for early childhood education and education reform in general. I thought about how I am a voice for my two young daughters as their mom and protector. I thought about how I am a voice in my education blog and my personal blog (this blog). I thought about how I'm a voice as a photographer through my photos, it's a voice of the beauty I see in the everyday moments. I also thought about the voice I can be and want to be. Like getting involved in non-profits that advocate for children and women. Really I am a voice just sums up so much of who I am, what I stand for, and what I strive to be.
